So you want to start a business? You have your business ideas laid out and have hopefully mastered your business plan, right? You’ve figured out which direction you want your brand to go, your ready for launch and have let a few people know that you’ll be starting your road to entrepreneurship super soon. Now what’s next? Promote yourself! Where do I start? You may ask. In this day and age, social media has made it super easy to get the following you want for your business with a single click. You literally have most of the marketing tools you need at the palm of your hand, and all for FREE. If you’re feeling stuck I definitely think these 5 quick steps to promote your business will give you the jump shot you need.
1.Create Cohesive Social Media Account Names
It makes it A LOT easier on you and your potential customers if all of your social media handles have a cohesive and, if possible, the same name. I know for me, it was not easy to find social media accounts that weren’t already taken. So I decided to add the word ‘style’ to the end of my Social Media accounts. For example, my social media names are:
Facebook: Roze Gold
I created the handles as such, so that if someone wanted to find and follow Roze Gold, I have made the naming convention simple and something that still connects to my brand.
2. Figure out which social media handles work best for your brand
You absolutely do NOT have to sign up and feel like you have to post a million times a day on each social media channel to be successful. You will literally drive yourself CRAZY if you try to do so (trust me, I’ve tried). Do not set unrealistic expectations that you will not be able to meet, it causes you to have a misconstrued version of failure that is NOT needed on your road to success. You like to talk more? Then Twitter is your friend. You like to connect with pictures? Instagram. Is your main goal to drive more people to your site and you have unique images? Well there’s Pinterest for that. And the list goes on and on.
3. From there…PLAN and EXECUTE.
This is where things get tricky and can start to feel a little overwhelming. Take a deep breath, and just get started. Statistics will be your best friend at this point. It is SO important to KNOW your AUDIENCE! Where do they hang out? What do they like to do? When are they most likely to have time to interact with your business? This is imperative to know, it’s also important to know that these times are not a one size fits all, it is not the same for every single site. From here..it is best for you to create a simple calendar for when you will post on each site, using a scheduled app like CoSchedule to post for you while you are busy doing other work (or working your 9-5 will be your best bet…Thank me later.)
4. Don’t Over Do It
As I stated before, you absolutely do NOT have to post 5 times a day every single day to have a successful promotion strategy for your business. Quality over quantity will always be the rule here.
5. Bring up your business in face to face conversations
Word of mouth is still single-handedly the best form of promotion and marketing these days. If you are passionate about your business, other people will see that. It can be kind of hard to express this through words or images especially when people are more drawn to ‘personal’ brands. Get out and about! Show your face and spread the word of your newfound business.
And always remember, there are more people that want to see you succeed than see you fail. So what are you waiting for?
